He has a broad smile on his face and is proud of his purchase. That is when he looks up and sees a plane overhead with a banner trailing behind it advertising an even NEWER model of the computer he just purchased. The joke refers to a concept known as Moore&#8217;s Law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/m\/mooreslaw.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investopedia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> helpfully defines Moore&#8217;s Law in the following terms for us:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMoore&#8217;s Law states that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles every two years. The law claims that we can expect the speed and capability of our computers to increase every two years because of this, yet we will pay less for them. Another tenet of Moore&#8217;s Law asserts that this growth is exponential. The law is attributed to Gordon Moore, the co-founder and former CEO of Intel.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, there are now some questions about the ability of semiconductor technology to keep up with the tenets of Moore&#8217;s Law. There is a fair amount of debate about how realistic it is to assume that Moore&#8217;s Law will continue to hold true into the future. It is true. If you think of the processing board of your electronics as the &#8220;brain&#8221; of those electronics, then the chiplets are the tiny pieces that make up those processing boards. Without the chiplet market, it would be impossible to have the vast array of electronics that we rely on for modern life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many electronic devices today are so complex that they require multi-chip modules to operate. The collection and storage of that data rely on the abilities of chiplets. There is so much data to be collected and only so much storage capacity worldwide.
